The Freeride Full-Time High School Team is designed for athletes committed to high-level all-mountain and big mountain skiing within a structured, performance-focused environment. This program builds on foundational freeride skills while emphasizing technical precision, line choice, and competition readiness.

Athletes train across a wide range of terrain, including steeps, trees, bumps, and powder, developing the ability to ski confidently and fluidly in complex mountain environments. Coaching focuses on advanced technique, terrain analysis, decision-making, and performance execution.

This program supports athletes pursuing freeride competition pathways, including regional and national events, while also preparing athletes for continued progression within the sport.

Volunteer Requirements

Points Required: 160

SSCV relies heavily upon the generosity of hundreds of volunteers who give thousands of hours to help with competitions, fundraising and various Club tasks and events. Volunteer points are earned by completing volunteer jobs, and these jobs are assigned a specific number of points based upon difficulty and time needed for completion. SSCV requires each family to complete a predetermined amount of volunteering based upon the programs in which they are involved. The number of points required per family is based upon the athlete’s program (and in the case of multiple athletes, it will be the program in which the most time-committed athlete participates).

There are numerous opportunities, both on and off the snow, throughout the year from May 1, 2026 – April 30, 2027. Opportunities will be shared with families via email as they arise.

Failure to meet your obligation could result in an evaluation of your family’s fit with the program and SSCV culture of volunteerism.

Facilities + Technical Support

Training takes place across Vail Mountain, utilizing a wide range of natural terrain to support high-level freeride development. Athletes train in steeps, trees, cliffs, and variable snow conditions, gaining real-world experience in complex mountain environments.

This access to diverse terrain is critical for preparing athletes for freeride competition and advanced all-mountain skiing.

Strength Training

At the high school level, athletes take a more intentional and performance-driven approach to both training and preparation. Access to SSCV Technical Services ensures skis are properly tuned for varying conditions and terrain.

Strength and conditioning are integrated into the program through SSCV’s Human Performance approach, focusing on strength, power, mobility, and injury prevention. This supports the physical demands of high-level freeride skiing and competition.
