Freeride Big Mountain

Full Time Middle School Team

The Freeride Full-Time Middle School Team is designed for athletes who are ready to commit to a higher level of training focused on all-mountain and big mountain skiing. This program provides a structured, full-time environment that emphasizes technical development, terrain mastery, and progression in freeride skiing.

Athletes train across a wide range of terrain, including steeps, bumps, trees, and powder, while developing the skills needed to confidently navigate complex mountain environments. Coaching focuses on line choice, control, fluidity, and decision-making, helping athletes become well-rounded and adaptable skiers.

This program introduces athletes to freeride competition pathways while continuing to prioritize long-term development and a strong foundation in mountain skiing.

Volunteer Requirements

Points Required: 160

As the oldest nonprofit in the Vail Valley, Ski & Snowboard Club Vail relies on the generosity and commitment of its families and community. Each year, hundreds of volunteers contribute thousands of hours to support competitions, fundraising efforts, and club operations. This involvement is essential to SSCV’s ability to deliver high-quality programming while keeping costs as accessible as possible.

All SSCV families are required to complete a set number of volunteer hours throughout the season. Volunteer opportunities are available year-round and include both on-snow and off-snow roles. The total requirement is based on your athlete’s program, and for families with multiple athletes, the highest program requirement will apply.

Volunteer hours are tracked through your MySSCV account, where families can view their balance and sign up for available opportunities.

For questions regarding volunteer requirements, point balances, or on-snow opportunities, please contact Land Collioure Le Coq at llecoq@skiclubvail.org. For off-snow and event-related opportunities, please contact Liz Filipowicz at lfilipowicz@skiclubvail.org.

Please note that failure to meet volunteer requirements may result in a reevaluation of your family’s participation in SSCV programs and alignment with the club’s culture of involvement.

Facilities + Technical Support

Training takes place across Vail Mountain, utilizing a wide range of natural terrain to support freeride development. Athletes train in steeps, bumps, trees, and powder, gaining real-world mountain experience in varied conditions.

This diverse terrain is essential for developing confident, adaptable freeride athletes.

Strength Training

At the full-time level, athletes begin to take a more structured approach to both performance and preparation. Access to SSCV Technical Services supports proper ski setup and maintenance for varied terrain and conditions.

Strength and conditioning are introduced in a more consistent and structured way, focusing on coordination, balance, strength, and injury prevention. This supports the physical demands of skiing more complex terrain and increased time on snow.
