Alpine Get in the Gates Program

Get in the Gates is back this year, so sign up today! One of the truly unique opportunities we offer at Ski & Snowboard Club Vail is the Alpine Bank Get in the Gates Recreational Racing Training Program. Within this program, recreational racers are afforded the incredible opportunity to literally “get in the gates” on a world-class race hill up to three days per week for up to two hours per day all season. The program is made possible by its title sponsor, Alpine Bank.

Program Details

Overview

Ages: 8 years old through adults (Including masters)

Disciplines: slalom and giant slalom

Program Dates: January through March as calendared

Duration: Two hours (conditions apply: i.e. event conflicts, weather)

Schedule/Locations: Get in the Gates calendar here (subject to change as calendared)

  • Tuesdays: giant slalom training
  • Thursdays: slalom training (up to 2 courses)
  • Saturdays: slalom or giant slalom (alternating weekly)
  • Training sessions run from 1:15 to 3:15 pm at Golden Peak in Vail. The program meets at the top of the lane at 1:15 pm. (Please note that times may vary for Thursday sessions taking place on the same day as another SSCV event).

SSCV is committed to making our programs accessible to families. Our scholarship program can cover up to 100% of program fees based on financial need and level of participation. For the 2026–2027 season, SSCV offers two types of scholarships. Explore our Scholarship Page to determine the best fit for your family.

Please note, the first deadline for 26/27 scholarship applications is May 15th, 2026 and the second deadline is October 1st, 2026. Families must have their 2025 tax return in order to complete their application.

Calendar

The Get in the Gates program runs during the winter season, typically from November through March, with training held on select weekends.

This program is designed to provide a flexible introduction to alpine training, with a schedule that allows athletes to build experience without a significant time commitment. A detailed calendar is provided prior to the start of the season.

Strength Training

At this level, the focus remains on building fundamental skiing skills and confidence. Athletes are introduced to basic equipment care and setup, with access to SSCV Technical Services for support as needed.

Off-snow development is minimal and age-appropriate, focusing on coordination, balance, and overall athletic movement.
