Ski & Snowboard Club Vail’s Zach Black took his run down the halfpipe in Ogden, Utah to a fifth place this past Sunday, 2/12, in the final stop of the Dew Tour, and he placed fourth overall for the three stops on the tour.

Qualifying second in the semi finals, Black was on track to have a great run at the finals.

“Black really stood up to the monstrous halfpipe,” said coach Mike Slaughter.  “His run had a couple of amazing tricks.”

The tricks Black threw included a frontside 900 that launched him about 20 feet out of the pipe.  He also brings a switch backside 900 to his game, which Slaughter said no one else does.

“Having these two tricks up his sleeve kept him in the thick of it right up to the end,” said Slaughter.

Black ended the day a mere four points away from a podium finish.

From here, Black, and coach Slaughter head to Stoneham, Quebec for a World Cup halfpipe competition.
