At this time of year at Ski & Snowboard Club Vail (SSCV) much is under way “For the Kids” to prepare them for the season and the future.  In addition to the daily conditioning and getting ready to get on snow later this month or in November, it is the primary time of year for SSCV athletes to work with their coaches setting short and long term goals, both on snow and off.  It is particularly busy for juniors and seniors, working diligently with college counselors on the college search and application process, visiting college campuses, taking ACT and SAT exams, and for seniors, working on their college essays and Common Application.  For those Alpine and Nordic athletes planning to compete as National College Athletic Association (NCAA) athletes, there is the added layer of communicating with prospective NCAA coaches.

There is nothing more important to SSCV than helping our young athletes learn important life skills and prepare for successful futures during their years at SSCV.  Of course, only a few become professional athletes or continue their athletic careers as members of the US Ski and Snowboard Team and NCAA athletes. The vast majority will receive the gift of a lifelong sport, love of physical activity and an introduction to healthy lifestyles. The lessons learned from the commitment to excellence are applicable to successful academics and careers.

Whether or not an SSCV athlete chooses to continue to compete in their snowsport after graduating from high school, they have differentiated themselves during their years at SSCV strengthening their applications to Universities and Colleges. Annually, SSCV athletes matriculate at some of the most highly regarded schools in the country.

The commitment of SSCV athletes to excellence as students and athletes is reflected by their outstanding achievement.  In the past year alone, the below athletes who passed through SSCV, were provided opportunities to pursue their dream in snowsports at the NCAA or National Team level.

While there’s room for only a few to achieve these high levels of athletic success, it is the Character, Courage and Commitment learned by all of the kids that is the most important outcome of their time at Ski & Snowboard Club Vail.
