The Rocky/Central J4 Junior Championships began Friday at Steamboat after weather delayed the opening race on Thursday, 3/17.
Friday’s schedule saw Super G racing in the morning for 160 competitors representing over 30 teams from both the Rocky and Central divisions, and Ski & Snowboard Club Vail’s Jack Keane took the silver, missing first by just over half of a second. Colby Lange placed third and Brendan Keane finished fifth.
Luke Vickerman, Jacob Dilling, Paul Cuthbertson, and Flinn Lazier took 10th, 11th, 13th, and 16th, respectively, with SSCV boys making up almost half of the top 16.
Nellie Talbot placed 12th for SSCV’s J4 girls in the morning Super G.
Friday afternoon, a one run giant slalom was held for the J4 boys and girls, and SSCV’s Colby Lange scored a fourth place finish with Brendan Keane in sixth, Luke Vickerman, 14th, and Paul Cuthbertson skiing to a 16th.
Nellie Talbot finished 12th in the afternoon GS with Whitney Merriman in 17th and Haily Norvell placing 18th.
“The conditions were good today,” said coach Ian Lochhead. “I was impressed with how the team came ready to race after taking Thursday off because of the weather.”
The J4 Rocky Central Championships continue Saturday, 3/19, with slalom racing for the boys and girls at Steamboat.
