Ski & Snowboard Club Vail’s Alex Leever wrapped up his competition on Monday, 3/12, in the J2 Nationals at Mammoth Mountain with a well-earned win in the parallel slalom, the final event.

Starting with the qualifying run for the competitors, Leever worked through the field taking eight runs, knocking off one competitor after another until he finished on top with the win.

“It was exciting to watch Leever charge through the field and come out on top,” said coach Peter Lange.

Also making it through eight charging runs was SSCV’s Alex Barounos with his fourth place in the dual slalom.  Nick Santaniello finished the event tied for ninth.

“Everyone had a lot of fun going against each other,” said coach Dan Stripp.  “And SSCV had some great results.”

Leever had a successful week at the nationals with a third in the slalom, a fourth in the giant slalom, and a win in the parallel slalom, and he finished the week standing fourth in the combined overall.

Notable combined overall finishes at the J2 Nationals for SSCV include Grace Merriman, with her 15th for the women, and Barounos, placing 25th for the men.
