Born and raised in Wisconsin, Ian Dunlop’s passion for ski racing began at a little ski area called Heiliger Huegel. A competitive, multi-sport athlete in his youth, Ian ultimately decided to pursue ski racing full time in Colorado during high school. After high school, he was four-year-letterman at the University of Denver, helping the team to a National Championship in 2005, while obtaining his bachelor’s in psychology.

Ian started his coaching career as the postgraduate coach at the Winter Park Competition Center immediately following college, and he eventually worked his way into the position of Alpine Director. From 2007-2013, a number of athletes from the Winter Park program continued on to NCAA ski teams nationwide, including multiple NCAA All-Americans. The program also placed many U16s into the national spotlight, at one point having three National Training Group athletes at the U16 level. Most recently, Ian has worked with U.S. Ski & Snowboard as the Rocky Central Regional Development Coach, overseeing the region’s development of U16 and older athletes.

Ian, his wife Emily, and their three kids Ainsley, Ewan, and Lachlan are thrilled to join the Ski Club Vail community.
