Ski & Snowboard Club Vail Executive Director Aldo Radamus accepted his ALS Ice Bucket Challenge from Tiger Shaw, USSA President and CEO, during Vail Ski & Snowboard Academy’s (VSSA) morning meeting on Monday.

SSCV full-time athletes attending VSSA, one of SSCV’s Academic Partners, had just listened to a moving presentation by VSSA Head of School Geoff Grimmer on “Paying it Forward”.  The SSCV athletes were then given the opportunity to witness a real time example of “Paying it Forward” with Aldo’s thoughtful discussion of the importance of supporting others throughout life and how empowered our youth are to make a difference, making specific reference to ALS and the underlying importance of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.  This was followed by a playful dousing of Aldo by two SSCV full-time athletes attending VSSA–Gus LeBlanc and Max Bervy.

Aldo then challenged John Garnsey, President, Global Mountain Development, and Chris Jarnot, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Vail Mountain, to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

When asked if the water was as cold as it looked, Aldo responded, “I guess I didn’t really notice.  It was very meaningful to me to participate in a world-wide initiative to raise awareness and funds in support of ALS and to be able to do it in such a way as to make it a teachable moment for so many of our SSCV athletes.  I hope this inspires them to fulfill their challenge, if they receive one, and to realize just how empowered they are, particularly in this age of social media, to make a difference in the world by always finding ways to “Pay it Forward”.”
