Vail, Colo. April 12, 2022 – Qualified snowboard athletes headed over to Copper Mountain this past week for the United States of America Snowboard and Freeski Association (USASA) Snowboard National Championships. The USASA Freeski National Championships take place from April 10 through April 14.  SSCV current and former athletes took three podiums and 29 top twenty placements. SSCV proudly put forward 40 athletes who qualified for this competition.

The USASA National Championships is a chance for qualified (age five and older are eligible to qualify) snowboard and freeski athletes to showcase their skills on a national stage. In order to qualify for this competition,  athletes compete in their local USASA series in their age class. Once an older athlete wins their age class or continues to podium in their age class, they typically will look to move into the “Open Division”.  This division has no age class breakout but has the best of the best entered into it. If one enrolls in the Open Division they are usually already competing at the next level up in Nor-ams and Rev Tours.

The USASA Snowboard National Championships consisted of men’s and women’s snowboard cross, parallel giant slalom, parallel slalom, halfpipe and slopestyle on April 3-7 and Rail Jams on April 3-6.

“These kids work hard all season competing at our USASA Rocky Mountain series in hopes to do well enough to get an invite to USASA Nationals.  Each series across the United States sends their best kids out for Nationals giving everyone a chance to compete against the best around in their age class,” said Chris Laske, SSCV Freeski and Snowboard Program Director. “Not only do the kids have a ton of fun this week, but they get the ultimate competition experience that creates memories that will last a lifetime.”
