SSCV’s snowboard team furthered its strong record at the Rev Tour in Park City last week. SSCV rider Dave Retzlaff matched the podium performances of his teammates earlier this season with a third-place result in the slopestyle. The result completes the hat trick for SSCV snowboarding with Retzlaff, Dylan Okurowski and Jack Coyne all cracking the podium at Junior World Qualifier events this season.
“The course was big and burly because the comp served as a test event for next year’s FIS World Championships,” said Head Coach Brady McNeil. “They may have gone a little too big and every night had to make adjustments to the course, which made it very tough to get comfortable on.”
Retzlaff was the sole SSCV athlete to make finals and put down a very competitive run with two different 1080s, good enough for third place and his first-career Rev Tour podium.
Meanwhile, Jack Coyne also competed in the halfpipe and was able to successfully debut a new run in qualifying that earned him a spot in the finals. In the finals, he upped the amplitude in that same run, scoring 80 points in the first of two laps, but went for a new trick in Run 2 and wasn’t quite able to hang on. He ended up eighth on the day.
