Vail, Colo. September 7, 2022 – Ski & Snowboard Club Vail athletes (Vail Junior Cycling Team) started the high school cycling season with a bang at the Colorado Mountain Bike League: Frisco Bay Invitational Cycling Race. Along with an overall team victory, SSCV showed up on away turf grabbing 5 podiums, and 4 top ten placements across the competition.
The CO MTB League’s Frisco Bay Invitational Cycling Race was the first race of the league’s series, providing an opportunity for Colorado’s high school students to get involved in competitive racing. The race course is a 5.85-mile loop with 600 feet of climbing per lap. Running clockwise, the course starts and finishes at the Frisco Adventure Park. This series has multiple races, all crescendoing towards the State Championships. The next race in this series was the Cloud City Classic in Leadville on September 10-11, 2022.
“The athletes from Vail Junior Cycling dominated their first high school race with multiple wins and top-ten finishes,” said Marshall Troutner, Head Coach. “We couldn’t be prouder of the efforts shown by every athlete, new and experienced, at Frisco. This season, all of our athletes are either students racing for VSSA or Eagle Valley High School. We’re excited to maintain this momentum moving into our next race this weekend in Leadville.”
“In short, we had 4/8 category wins and 11 podiums! It was great to see everyone work together, be positive, and try their hardest at the first high school mountain bike race of the season. We as coaches are really lucky to have hard-working and drama-free athletes and families. It’s shaping up to be a great season and I think everyone is just excited to spend some more race weekends together and just have fun.” Troutner continued.
