IN DER SCHWEIZ NUN-fEBRUARY 3, 2014

Hello All,

Writing with an update on our travels here in Europe.  After learning that all of our planned races in Sud Tyrol, ITA were cancelled due to too much snow we decided to stay at Cristoph’s and train for two more days.  Christoph was more then happy to accommodate us, as were the boys at the Benni Raich Race Center. Like we anticipated the agenda has been fluid but all the attitudes are positive and we are now even more prepared to race.

We took today off to drive from Pitztal to Schonried, Switzerland.  During our travels we made a small detour through Lichtenstein and also grabbed some lunch in Zurich.  Schonried is an idyllic alpen town that embodies the spirit of winter and ski racing.  The Swiss alps are as beautiful as ever and the boys are ecstatic seeing new parts of the world.

Here in Schonried we met up with Global Ski Racing Team, headed by Paul Epstein, an old friend from Vermont.  We will stay and work together as a group during these races.  The wonderful hotel where we are staying is owned by Bruno Kernen who was Downhill World Champion in 97′.  The Saanen Valley is also the home of Michael van Grünigen so the ski racing energy is all around us here.  Our plan is to stay here for two days of GS racing and then off to Valgrisenche, ITA, with maybe a stop in Chamonix on our drive.  We are all excited and ready to race and continue this adventure.

Will update with more later.

BACK AT IT/GREAT ARTICLE-12/27/13

Hello All,

I hope you all had a healthy and happy Christmas spending time with family and friends! I hope you used the intended rest period for just that, REST! We are back at it tomorrow with a prep period for the upcoming Aspen races. Check the google calendar for our training plan. Additionally, Stefan should have a plan out soon for those looking at heading to Europe with him. Look for that email and we can start the dialogue on the logistics of this trip.

We as a group are all in a good place after some great races in Steamboat. Below is an article some of you may have already stumbled upon, so may have not. It highlights our coaching philosophy and what we’ve been trying to drive over the past year. Although we can all be better about our approach (myself included), I believe you guys are starting to embody this approach and it shows in your skiing. Let’s keep this great focus going as we move forward into the New Year!

We will be staying at the Rabbit Ears Motel. We have a total of 7 of you staying with us. The total cost for each athlete is $145 ($48 per night). This reservation includes a warm breakfast each day.

NorAM/Surefoot Speed Info-December 8, 2013

Boys,

Below are the links to the race announcements for the Surefoot Speed series in Copper as well as the NorAM series. Open the link to get payment information. Make sure to bring a check tomorrow for registration fees and lift tickets. Also provided is the link to the waiver that must be filled out, signed and brought to registration.
Surefoot Race Announcement:
NorAm Race Announcement:
Waiver:
The meeting is tonight at 6:00pm. There are a lot of moving parts on this one. As of now I think it is important for the U18s to race in the Surefoot DH because it is a U18 National qualifier. The U21s will race in the NorAM. I will have specific information pertaining to the schedule, etc. directly following the meeting.
Travel to and from this race will also be a bit complicated. Since there are two series going on it might be best for you to carpool with one another. I have a van reserved with a trailer for those that need a ride to and from. I will have to stay for the TCM every night as well, so keep this in mind if your planning on riding with me.
Lastly, The FIS has deemed that all racers competing in speed races must comply with all the posted rules. This means that old skis will not be permitted in the race.
Look for another email later this evening.
Best,
B

Hi All,

Not sure if you all read the Race Announcements thoroughly for the upcoming NJR races at Loveland but Loveland is only collecting entry fee money online, through the USSA online system.  For the women’s race that online system closes Thursday evening at 11:59 PM.  Please make sure your athletes pay online prior to  Thursday evening.

A FIS entry form is still required to enter your athletes, to be sent in by either you as the coach or your regional divisional office depending where you are from.  RMD athletes – clubs will be sending in the entry, out of division athletes – Regional entries are sent in.  The online registration system is being utilized only to take money.  If you have an athlete sign up for the event that is not qualified there will not be a refund given.

Click here for directions for online registration you can pass on to your parents.  They can take care of this and it will take about five minutes.

Let me know if you have any questions.
Darlene
