Two-time extreme skiing world champion Chris Davenport is widely regarded as one of the premier big mountain skiers in the world. Among his many ski-mountaineering achievements, in 2007, Davenport became the first person to ski all 54 of Colorado’s 14,000-foot peaks in less than one year.
On Tuesday, Ski & Snowboard Club Vail (SSCV) will host a free event, open to the public: The Centennial Peaks: Skiing Colorado’s 100 Tallest and the Lessons Learned. Davenport will be discussing his extreme take on risk management and method for decision-making while on expeditions, such as his conquest of the Colorado peaks.
“The presentation will be entertaining and informative for all members of the community, especially those who find themselves making quick decisions and managing risk in the outdoors,” said SSCV General Manager Mike Trueblood.
As part of his experience, Davenport has claimed numerous first descents around the globe, and recently guided a skiing expedition on Mount Everest. He’s been featured in more than 30 ski films, such as Warren Miller and Matchstick Productions. He is also a TV commentator for ESPN, ABC sports and Outside Television.
The Colorado skier was recently named one of ESPN’s 10 Greatest American Freeskiers of all Time and was chosen as a 2014 honored member of the USA Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame.
The presentation, hosted by SSCV, is set to take place at the Vail Ski & Snowboard Academy in Minturn on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
