WOMEN’S ALPINE WEEKLY UPDATE-12/12/13

Hi team,

Its been a busy past few weeks with training projects of every level, home training on Gold Peak, races underway for the FIS athletes and hosting the World Cup Men and Womens’ races.  Wheeew!  Now that we are through the thick of it I think we will see a sense of normalcy return to our scheduling and home training.

While a bit busy at times, we had the opportunity to train side by side and even with world class racers from various national teams on our home hill.  The U16’s spent a good chunk of time on Birds of Prey and got to witness history in the making with the first running of the new women’s speed track and see the action up close and personal.  Ted’s and Bode’s performance on the final day of GS was a great way to see that series finish off.  We put in some long, hard days there but it didn’t go unnoticed and the race organizers were very appreciative of our efforts.  I want to personally thank everyone for the effort put forth and representing our program in such a positive manner.

The U16’s are heading to Winter Park this weekend for their first competition.  The FIS girls have been representing SSCV already at Nor Ams and Sure Foot series competitions.  It is wonderful to see the fruits of your effort starting to come together on snow as we roll into the competition season.  Remember to stick to your plans that your coaches have rolled out so you can best manage rest, training, and focus on peaking at the important parts of the season and maximizing your performance.

We are still looking for volunteers to help with the upcoming NorAms.  Here are some specifics that I received regarding positions they are looking to fill.

WOMEN’S USSA TEAM NEWS-WEEKLY UPDATE-TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2013

Hi Team,

We are getting into a busy time of the season for alpine with the FIS girls ramping up for their first events and the Birds of Prey event work that we have on the horizon.  Keep up to date with the calendar.  Sometimes they do have to change and we will do our best to communicate changes as early as possible.

Birds of Prey work begins this Saturday, Nov 23rd.  The U16 group for both men and women will be filling the majority of the hill work days.  If you are a full time U16 athlete who is not from Denver (ie the three girls who live in Denver and train Friday-Sunday) plan on being on hill for BOP work.  A specific BOP work schedule will be sent out by Thursday that will line out who is on the venue on what days, and outlying training opportunities and rest days.  If you have an issue arise that will prevent you from being able to be on the hill, please communicate to me as early as possible so I can make sure our numbers work.  This is a balancing act for us to provide enough people to work BOP each day.

You will need to pick up your Epic Pass if you haven’t yet as this will be your pass for all BOP days.

IMPORTANT  Starting tomorrow the safety meetings will be at 8:15 for Women’s Alpine (PG, U18, U16) with an 8:30 load on the lift.  All warmup will be on Conway’s Cut through Main West.

Please help do your part to keep the clubhouse clean including the locker room.  If you see litter, even if it isn’t yours, be the better person and pick it up.  By taking care of these kind of things we are showing pride in our program and respect for you coaches who are the ones who clean the entire club house daily.

Snow is flying in the air, the excitement is building…. keep up the hard work!

WOMEN’S USSA TEAM NEWS-NOVEMBER 7, 2013

Hi girls,

Quick change to tomorrow’s schedule.  We had the tuning clinic at VSSA for 6 pm scheduled.  We are canceling that event and will do it at a later time. Reason for the change is due to a conflict with the US Ski Team festivities at Copper that is a cool opportunity to attend.  We WILL be having the waxing session next week on Friday at 5pm, not the 6pm originally posted.  The waxing and tuning clinics will give you some good knowledge and skills to have in your quiver for preparing your edges and waxing your skis.  You all need to have a good understanding on how to prepare your skis correctly and consistently, even if someone else prepares your skis daily, there will be times when that person won’t be with you and you will need the skills.

One additional note, the dates for physical assessment retesting will be next Tuesday and Wednesday at VSSA, 5pm.  If you had to miss a day of testing, this will be your chance to make it up.  If you had an issue that kept you from doing a certain test and feel ready to retry a particular test, this is possible as well.

Ok, see you all on the hill,

WOMEN’S USSA TEAM NEWS-NOVEMBER 6, 2013

Hi girls,

Hope everyone’s week is going well so far.  I wanted to shoot a quick note with some reminders/updates for the week.

As always, please refer to the calendar daily for information regarding training and conditioning.  Training is different from U18/PG to U16 as well as other programs so make sure you check the calendar that pertains to your program.

Conditioning for the winter season will now be 3 days a week Tuesday through Thursday after school at VSSA as well as VMS.  Make sure to bring a pair of dedicated indoor workout shoes.  There have been issues with people walking into the gym at SSCV as well as VSSA with wet/dirty shoes.  There is zero tolerance for unclean shoes in these areas, make sure to bring appropriate footwear.  If you are planning to use the spin bikes for warm up or cool down, you MUST wear shoes, no socks.  Make sure to put things back where they belong if you use any items in the gyms.  Every item has a place it belongs, if you take it out, put it back.  There have been issues lately of the gyms being left a mess and Jake and Miles having to pick things up.  This applies for the gym at VSSA as well, the storage room next to the stage is for coaches only, please don’t take items from there unless asked by a coach to grab them.

For those that need to make up physical testing, next Tuesday and Wednesday will be the days for that at VSSA.  Plan on being there those days to fulfill your requirements.

Just a reminder to be at all safety meetings prior to on snow training at Gold Peak.  The safety meetings are 15 minutes prior to loading the lift at SSCV.  You must be at the safety meeting to receive your ticket.    While on the hill, please make sure to be putting the bar down when riding the chairlift.

Keep up the good work everyone and have a great day.
