This past weekend, SSCV’s freestyle development team traveled to Telluride, Colorado for the Rocky Mountain Development Freestyle Championships, and when the scores were tallied, SSCV’s Tess Johnson won her 8th competition in a row to clinch the overall moguls title in J5/J6 while Mallory Skidmore won the overall slopestyle contest, and placed second overall in the moguls.  Mallory’s brother, Jack, walked away with the overall title in the mogul contest for the J3/J4 boys.

“The big story of the weekend was Mallory Skidmore’s overall slopestyle and moguls performance,” said coach John Grigsby.  “And her brother Jack stomped a 720 to seal the deal for his overall moguls win.”

The conditions were frozen snow in the morning and then softening to slush in the afternoon.  In addition, with the sun out, the course was changing from run to run.

“It was a very tight competition, with the top 3 boys having almost identical turn and air scores after the first run,” Grigsby said.   “Jack knew that being the last competition of the season he had to lay it all on the line by using the trick we’ve been working on all season, the 720.”
