Nordic Ski & Snowboard Club Vail/DU Invitational at Maloit Park Nordic Trails this Past Weekend
The Maloit Park Nordic Trails saw a wide array of Nordic athletes competing at the Nordic Ski & Snowboard Club Vail/DU Invitational. This event hosted by Ski & Snowboard Club Vail took place this past Friday and Saturday in Minturn.
The invitational served as a Nordic RMISA event for collegiate athletes. The Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association (RMISa) is the official association for college and university NCAA skiing teams in the Rocky Mountain region. It is comprised of seven NCAA Division I institutions and one NAIA institution from seven states stretching from Alaska to New Mexico.
Racing alongside these collegiate athletes were U16, U18 and U20 athletes competing in their Rocky Mountain Division Junior National Qualifier. Starts among the RMISA and JNQ athletes were ranked by FIS points.
Nordic athletes U14 and below also participated in the Invitational, working to secure points in the Colorado Cup. At the start of the Invitational the SSCV Nordic team was sitting in second place.
On Friday, Top finishers among the collegiate athletes were Rune Malo Oedegaard of the University of Colorado for the men and Cappel Makayla of the University of Denver for the women.
Ski & Snowboard Club Vail Nordic Program Director Dan Weiland shared, “It was great to see this wide age range of athletes compete on the same tracks for the past two days. The younger athletes were truly inspired by the collegiate crew. It is always good for the collegiate athletes to realize what role models they are to those newer to the sport than them.”
“Great weather, fantastic snow conditions and an enthusiastic crew of volunteers, athletes and parents made for an excellent event”, continued Weiland. “I am really proud of all the SSCV athletes and their accomplishments at the Invitational.”
