Smartwool Ski Cup Came to Golden Peak this Past Weekend

It was an exciting weekend of ski racing at Golden Peak, with over 150 alpine racers, almost all of them 14 and 15 years old, gathered to compete in a Smartwool Ski Cup Giant Slalom race on Saturday and Slalom race on Sunday hosted by Ski & Snowboard Club Vail (SSCV).   This fourteen event Smartwool Ski Cup USSA Open Series for alpine ski racers 1999 birth year and older includes Slalom, Giant Slalom, Super G and Downhill events, and culminates with the Smartwool Championships in late March.

In Saturday’s Smartwool Ladies Giant Slalom, U18 Katy Harris took first overall.  The U16 SSCV ladies took three of the top five overall spots with Nellie Rose Talbot in 2nd, Jennie Symons in 3rd and Katelin Hennum in 4th.  U16 Anna Patterson took 5th overall.  In Saturday’s Smartwool Mens Giant Slalom, Senior Christopher Acosta was the overall winner with U16 Tristan Lane 2nd overall, SSCV’s Colby Lange 3rd overall, SSCV’s Bridger Gile 4th overall and Kyle Negomir 5th overall.

In Sunday’s Smartwool Mens Slalom overall results, Seniors Seppie Stiegler and Christopher Acosta took 1st and 2nd, respectively, U16 Tristan Lane took 3rd , SSCV’s U16 Bridger Gile took 4th and SSCV’s U16 Paul Cuthbertson took 5th.   For the Ladies Slalom, U18 Katy Harris took 1st overall.  The U16’s took 2nd – 5th place overall with SSCV’s Jennie Symons in 2nd, Rosie Hust in 3rd, Andrea Arnold  in 4th and Kaitlyn Vesterstein in 5th.
