Ski & Snowboard Club Vail Freestyle athletes deliver at Rocky Mountain Freestyle Division Championships in Telluride

Four SSCV Freestyle Athletes Qualify for Junior Worlds

SSCV’s 17-year-old Morgan Schild Wins First World Cup

The Rocky Mountain Freestyle Divisional Championships took place in Telluride this past weekend with Moguls on Saturday and Dual Moguls on Sunday.  There was plenty of excitement in the air watching this very competitive field of NorAm athletes compete alongside a number of development level athletes from throughout the Rocky Mountain Division.  This Divisional Championship was also the last event for athletes to qualify for US Freestyle Championships, adding another tier of excitement to the weekend.

Ski & Snowboard Club Vail athletes enjoyed several podium spots throughout the weekend highlighted on Saturday by Tess Johnson taking Gold for the Women and Casey Andringa taking Silver for the Men in Moguls, followed by 2 other SSCV women in the top 10 (Lindsey Eckhoff (5th) and Anna Park (9th)) and 4 other SSCV men in the top ten that day (Emerson Smith (4th), Hunter Bailey (5th), Morgan Osborne (6th) and Jack Harty (7th)).

Casey Andringa of SSCV topped the Men’s podium on Sunday in Dual Moguls with several other SSCV athletes taking a top 10 spot-Matt Leseur in 4th, Hunter Bailey in 5th and Jack Harty in 6th  for the Men and Lindsey Eckoff in 4th for the Women.

SSCV Program Director John Dowling stated, “The folks at Telluride put on a fantastic event.  It was great to see so many SSCV athletes in the top 10 at Divisional Championships. “

All the top Rocky Mountain Division skiers return from NorAms to compete in Divisional Championship, making for a very competitive field.

Four SSCV Freestyle Athletes Qualify for Junior Worlds; SSCV’s Morgan Schild Wins first World Cup at age of 17

There is a lot of pride amidst the Ski & Snowboard Club Vail community with four of its freestyle athletes qualifying to compete in Freestyle Junior Worlds in Valmalenco Italy on March 25 and 26.  The top freestyle juniors in the world will gather to put down top performances amidst an extremely competitive international field.

“Only four men and four women qualify for Junior Worlds from the entire United States”, stated John Dowling, SSCV Freestyle Program Director, “so for SSCV athletes to qualify for half of these spots is quite an accomplishment.”   “Tess Johnson, Morgan Schild, Hunter Bailey and Casey Andringa have worked hard the past year to land these coveted spots.  I am looking forward to great things from them as they compete in Junior Nationals and Junior Worlds over the next several weeks.  This is all coming on the heels of Morgan Schild winning her first World Cup in Dual Moguls about a week ago in Japan at the age of 17.”
