Vail, Colo. September 14, 2022 – Ski & Snowboard Club Vail  athletes (Vail Junior Cycling Team) continued the high school cycling season with momentum at the Colorado Mountain Bike League: Cloud City Challenge – Yampa Race. Along with an overall second place team finish, SSCV continued their winning streak with multiple podiums, top ten placements, and overall wins across the two days of competition.

The CO MTB League’s Cloud City Challenge – Yampa Race  was the first race of the league’s series from September 10-11. The JV, Sophomore, and Freshman race course consist of  a 6.2 -mile loop with 620 feet of climbing per lap, and the Varsity course is 7.4 -mile per loop with 666 feet of climbing per lap. This series has multiple races, all crescendoing towards the State Championships. The next race in this series is the Showdown on the Boat in Steamboat on September 24-25, 2022.

“This race was all about improvement of the team and the Vail Junior Cycling athletes continued to claim podium positions. We had a collective 3 wins, 8 podiums, and 12 top-tens.”  said Marshall Troutner, Head Coach. Two athletes had hard crashes (Ethan Barber and Alex Current) but they are doing well post-race. Alex Current even managed to win his category. Landen Stovall, still visibly suffering from a head-cold, managed another win.”

“Lucy Perkins had to sprint all the way to the line to win her category. Of Note, Stella Sanders moved up to 3rd, Maggie Linscott moved up to the podium, and Vessi Steiner moved into the top-ten, Ethan Barber moved up to 12th. Ben Suttor made such an improvement over the last race, he won the Slingshot award (most improvement between races). Once again, both VSSA and Eagle Valley finished in the top-three in their division. VSSA has three points-leaders and Eagle Valley has one points-leader.” Troutner continued.
