In the opening race of the Millennium Bank Colorado Junior Ski Cup, an FIS race series for junior skiers, Ski & Snowboard Club Vail’s Alex Leever charged the slalom course to finish second overall, first for the J2 men.

“Alex skied really well,” said coach J.J. Jensen.  “He got after it and did what he had to do.  As a first year J2, he came away with a good result today.”

Zachary Ziolkowski and Andreas Calabrese cracked into the top 15 for SSCV finishing sixth and 11th respectively.

For SSCV’s women, Kendall VanHee placed eighth and Molly McGrew was 15th.

“I’m pleased with how our men and women skied in tough, very cold conditions with soft snow,” said coach Jensen.

“Anytime you place in the top 15 at an FIS race, you’ve done well,” said SSCV coach Scott Meyers.

The Millennium Bank Colorado Junior Ski Cup continues today with another slalom race at Crested Butte for the men and women.
