On Sunday, the venue moved from Saturday’s GS on Steamboat mountain, to Howelsen Hill across the valley for a day of slalom, and Ski & Snowboard Club Vail’s Paula Moltzan raced her way to victory in the first of 2 slalom races on this stop of the Surefoot Colorado Ski Cup tour.

“It was a really good race for me today,” said Moltzan.  “I ran first on the first run so I had a fresh course.  On my second run, the course was a little rough, but I made it down clean.”

SSCV had some more solid finishes as Anne Strong came away with a fifth place, Taylor Rapley skied to sixth, Noelle Barahona took eighth, and Elizabeth Strong finished in 14th.

“The course deteriorated quickly today,” said coach Nick Foster.  “All of our women fought through the tough sections to end up with some great finishes.”

SSCV’s men saw Christoph Niederhauser in 11th, Alex Leever took first for the J2 men and 13th overall, and Cannon O’Brien placed 17th after having the second fastest run at the track on run number two.

“Leever skied well for a first year J2,” said coach Nick Asoian.  “And O’Brien is gaining confidence by putting down some great runs.”
