Breckenridge, CO – The Surefoot Colorado Ski Cup Championships began this past Monday and Tuesday at Breckenridge with Super G racing for the men and women, and on Tuesday, 4/2, Ski & Snowboard Club Vail’s Sean McCormick skied to a third place for the juniors among a very fast crowd.

McCormick came from a start of 21 to make it to the junior podium, and he finished eighth overall.

“It was a good run for me,” said McCormick.  “I’ve been working hard and skiing fast in training, and it feels good to finally get a good result.”

The top three in Tuesday’s Super G – U.S. Team member Thomas Biesemeyer, winner of the U.S. National downhill in February, was first, Dustin Cook, from Canada, and winner of the U.S. National Super G, was second, and Jared Goldberg, another U.S. Team skier who came in third in the U.S. National Super G.

For the women at the Surefoot Super G, SSCV’s U.S. Team member Abby Ghent placed eighth.

The giant slalom portion of the Surefoot Championships took place on Golden Peak for the men and at Breckenridge for the women, and on Golden Peak, Taylor Shiffrin took the top spot for SSCV with a fourth for the junior men and 17th overall, and Shiffrin is the current points leader for the Surefoot tour.

“Shiffrin is a real competitor in the junior field,” said coach Peter Lange.  “For him to ski this consistently in a field like this is a testimony to his ability.”

Norway’s Leif Kristian Haugen took the win on this day with U.S. Ski Team skiers Thomas Biesemeyer and Jared Goldberg in second and third, respectively.

SSCV’s Sean McCormick finished 25th on the day.

For the women’s GS in Breckenridge, SSCV’s Katharine Irwin, Abby Ghent, and Paula Moltzan, all U.S. Team members, skied to eighth, 14th, and 17th, respectively.

SSCV alums Erika Ghent and Sarah Schleper placed seventh and ninth.

The Surefoot Colorado Ski Cup Championships continue today with giant slalom races for the men at Golden Peak and for the women at Breckenridge.
