Sunday’s Giant Slalom Spectacular proved to be another great race for Ski and Snowboard Club
Vail’s up and coming athletes who took to the hill for the last race of the season at Beaver Creek.
The J3 and older racers kicked out of the start first on Sunday with the University of Denver’s
Lindsay Cone winning for the Women while DU’s Seppi Stiegler won for the men.
For SSCV, Erika McCormick took second for the J3 women and fifth overall while teammate Grace
Merriman placed fourth for the J3s and seventh overall.
The SSCV men had Colin Hayes in second for the J2 men, fifth overall, Zachary Ziolkowski placed
seventh overall, and Alex Leever was third for the J2 men, and eighth overall.
The J5 skiers had their first run at 1:00 P.M., and for the girls, Brianna Trudeau took first for both
her GS races with Gretchen Pavelich in second and Sylka Snyder in third for both runs, giving SSCV
two podium sweeps for the J5 girls.

“I normally sing “Eye of the Tiger” in my head when I’m skiing down the course,” said Trudeau. “It
keeps me motivated. I’m really excited about winning both runs today.”
The J5 boys saw Gus LeBlanc and Max Bervy take first and second in the first race. In the second
race, LeBlanc and Bervy went second and third.
“It’s a great experience for everyone out there today,” said LeBlanc. “When I’m skiing the course, I
think about keeping a tight line, staying focused, being in the zone, and not letting anything distract
me”

In the first race for the J4 girls, Paula Cooper took third while Nellie Talbot placed fourth. In race
two, Talbot took third and Haley Frischholz came in fourth.
For the J4 boys, Jack Keane and Brendan Keane placed first and second in race one. Colby Lange
took first in the second race for the J4 boys and Brendan Keane took third.
“This is a great event for SSCV’s young racers,” said J5 coach John McMurtry. “This is a world
class giant slalom trail and the conditions were absolutely incredible. The race crew did a fabulous
job, and for the young skiers to have an opportunity to ski a long GS is money in the bank for these
young kids.”
