From Monday, April 4 to Thursday April 7, Ski & Snowboard Club Vail hosted the Surefoot Colorado Ski Cup ladies slalom and giant slalom events and men’s slalom events at Golden Peak.  These spring series alpine races included the Colorado Ski Championships on April 5 for women in giant slalom and on April 7 for men and women in slalom.

This International Ski Federation sanctioned series drew many top alpine racers birth year 1999 and older not only from the Rocky Mountain region but also from other parts of the United States and abroad, including US Ski Team and National Training Group members, making for some exciting spring racing.  This strong field also provided a great opportunity for junior racers to lower their International Ski Federation profile for seeding and other opportunities for next season.

Several impressive top performances were logged in by Ski & Snowboard Club Vail younger athletes in the under 19 age class (birth years 1997-1999) at this series with Nellie Talbot taking first in the second day of the ladies giant slalom, River Radamus taking second and Jack Keane taking third in the first day of the men’s slalom and Colbey Derwin taking third in the second day of the men’s slalom.

Ski & Snowboard Club Vail Alpine Program Director Karen Ghent commented, “This final home race on Golden Peak was a great way for our FIS level athletes to end their season.  Any time these athletes can compete against national team members and other seasoned local and international athletes on the home hill is an inspiration and a view into what lies ahead in their racing careers, especially as they get ready to enter their off-season on and off snow prep period and set goals with their coaches for next year.”
