Ski & Snowboard Club Vail’s J3 team took control of the J3 Championship giant slalom qualifier Sunday on Golden Peak. 11 teams from the Rocky Mountain Division competed in two one-run GS races for the boys and girls.

“The SSCV team was able to piece together what we’ve worked on all season,” said coach Georgia Wettlaufer.

And what SSCV pieced together were two podium sweeps and a first place for every one of Sunday’s races.

The boys ran first, and in their A.M. race River Radamus took a convincing first, with teammates Tagert Mueller, Logan Martin, Ryan Schmidt, Sands Simonton, Colbey Derwin, and Paul Cuthbertson placing third, fourth, fifth, sixth, ninth, and tenth, respectively.

The girls kicked out of the start next, and SSCV’s team took the top five spots with Skylar Chaney in first.  Rachael Desrochers, Abigail Murer, Heidi Livran, and Megan McGrew finished, second, third, fourth, and fifth, respectively, with Camilla Trapness in eighth, Sasha Horn, tenth, and Whitney Merriman in 12th.

The boys P.M. run had SSCV sweep the podium with Martin, Radamus, and Schmidt going one, two and three.  Mueller, Derwin, Simonton, Luke Vickerman, Paul Cuthbertson, and Ryan Collins, packed themselves into the top 15 finishing fifth, seventh, tenth, 11th, 12th, and 14th, respectively.

Desrtochers won the P.M. race for the girls, with Martin, Murer, Livran, Chaney, and Horn taking third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and ninth, respectively, with Trapness in 16th.

“The name of the game today was execution,” said coach Bruce Hamlin.  “It’s not that the team just skied great, they were able to implement the game plan.
