Ski & Snowboard Club Vail had its freeride and snowboard teams at Winter Park this past weekend, 2/26 and 2/27, for a USASA boarder cross (SBX) and skier cross (SX) competition, and the team came away with some great results.

Saturday’s contest saw Christhian Ravelo take first in the SX event for the men’s open skier division.

For SSCV’s snowboard team, Jack Coyne took second for the 8-9 year old boys, Cameron Chaney was second for the 10-11 year old boys, Isabelle Deforest placed fourth for the 12-13 year old girls, Will Harris finished third for the 12-13 year old boys, and Corey Steinke took third for the 14-15 year old men.

According to SSCV coach Jeremiah Paquette, the course took a beating after 80 plus competitors took several practice and time trial runs.

“The SSCV skiers and snowboarders were able to charge through the chop,” said Paquette.  “I was really impressed with how well the team handled the course, especially after only one day of training.”

On day 2 of the competition, the SSCV snowboard team had Cameron Chaney take first for the 10-11 year old boys, Senna Leith finishing third for the 12-13 year old boys, Steinke placed third for the 14-15 year old men, and Emily Duncan placed fourth for the 12-13 year old girls.

In the SX open men’s division, Ravelo scored his second win in as many days.

“I’m stoked about my wins,” said Ravelo.  “The course was pretty technical.  It was quick and fast, with some rollers that were close together and easy to overshoot.”
