In the USSA Freestyle Junior Nationals at Steamboat on Tuesday, 3/9, Ski & Snowboard Club Vail’s John Leonard skied to the gold in the halfpipe competition, earning him the title of Junior National Halfpipe Champion.

“Leonard won the competition with his second run,” said coach Elana Chase.  “He landed well on everything, grabbed all his tricks, and rode away with confidence.”

SSCV’s Adam Crook shared the podium with Leonard placing third, while Chloe Lee took second for the women.

“Crook went really big on his run, and Lee had some of her best skiing of the season with really high amplitude,” said Chase.

Also at Wednesday’s competition were Kendall Deighan and Broby Leeds.   Deighan finished first in her age group, and Leeds took second for his age class.

“Leeds had a great second run to earn silver for the 15 and 16 year old men,” said Chase.  “And Kendall skied great coming back from an injury that kept her out of competition for over a year.”

The USSA Freestyle Nationals continue Thursday, 3/10, with the National Championship Slopestyle competition.
